BUZZ-U.S. STOCKS ON THE MOVE-Nvidia, Parexel, Walt Disney

The Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 0.17 percent at 18,775, the S&P 500 was down 0.45 percent at 2,157.62 and the Nasdaq Composite was down 0.15 percent at 5,201.21.

** NVIDIA CORP, $83.59, +23.34 pct

** ADVANCED MICRO DEVICES INC, $6.55, +4.05 pct

The company reported its biggest quarterly revenue growth in more than six years as demand soared for its gaming chips used in personal computers.

** J.C. PENNEY CO INC, $8.61, -2.27 pct

The department store operator reported a surprise 0.8 percent fall in quarterly comparable-store sales, reflecting weak traffic, increased competition from online and off-price retailers and a general shift away from spending on apparel.

** WALT DISNEY CO, $97.69, +2.87 pct

The media company executives promised earnings growth for the next two years, easing investor concerns over a quarterly drop in ad sales and subscribers at its ESPN sports network.

** PTC THERAPEUTICS INC, $10.0995, +68.33 pct

European Medicines Agency’s Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use recommended renewal of conditional marketing authorization of Translarna for treatment of nonsense mutation Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

** PAREXEL INTERNATIONAL CORP, $54.34, -10.15 pct

The company said it would miss the deadline to file its latest quarterly report as it had identified potential errors in its prior reports.

** PRA HEALTH SCIENCES INC, $55.02, -5.76 pct

Top shareholder KKR & Co LLP sold about 12 percent stake in the contract research company.


Credit Suisse downgraded the hospital operator to “underperform” from “neutral”, according to a trader.

** ALIBABA GROUP HOLDING LTD, $92.3, -2.16 pct

Chinese e-commerce company’s Singles’ Day sales surged past last year’s 91.2 billion yuan ($13.36 billion) total, but growth was markedly slower than in 2015 as shoppers sought even bigger price cuts.

** PFIZER INC, $32.52, -2.90 pct

The U.S. pharmaceuticals giant is to offer its pneumococcal vaccine at the lowest possible price to non-governmental organizations seeking to protect vulnerable people from illness in humanitarian crises.


The Canadian drugmaker that became a poster child for high drug prices during the U.S. election season, may change its name to help boost its reputation, board member and its biggest investor, William Ackman, told CNBC on Wednesday.

** COMMSCOPE HOLDING, $32.995, -3.27 pct

Top shareholder Carlyle Group divested its remaining position in the network gear maker.

** CONOCOPHILLIPS, $43.72, -2.37 pct

The largest U.S. independent oil producer will sell up to $8 billion in natural gas assets and trim its capital budget by 4 percent next year to provide funds to bolster operations, executives said.

** TERRAFORM POWER INC, $12.52, +0.81 pct

** TERRAFORM GLOBAL INC, $3.9, -2.50 pct

TerraForm Power and TerraForm Global, the “yieldcos” of bankrupt solar company SunEdison Inc, said they would delay filing their third-quarter earnings reports.

** CME GROUP INC, $115.28, -1.51 pct
