BUZZ-U.S. STOCKS ON THE MOVE-American Eagle, Valeant, energy, rail and bank stocks

The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 0.37 percent at 19,193.14, the S&P 500 was up 0.14 percent at 2,207.68 and the Nasdaq Composite was down 0.68 percent at 5,343.47.

** ARROWHEAD PHARMACEUTICALS , $1.51, -65.60 pct

The gene-silencing said late Tuesday it would stop developing all its three drugs currently undergoing humans tests due to a setback in its drug-delivery technology.

** NOMAD FOODS, $9.43, -5.70 pct

The distributor of branded frozen foods in Western Europe fell for the second day. The company reported lower-than-expected Q3 sales early Tuesday due to weak demand in its largest markets.

** COSTAMARE INC , $5.69, -14.44 pct

The marine transportation services provider said an upsized offering of 12 million shares was priced at $6 apiece, with majority-holder Konstantakopoulos family committed to buy about $10 million worth of the deal.

** AMERICAN EAGLE OUTFITTERS INC , $16.215, -14.25 pct

The teen apparel retailer forecast a much lower-than-expected fourth-quarter profit and gave a cautious comparable sales forecast, blaming choppy mall traffic and a tough retail climate.

** VALEANT PHARMACEUTICALS, $15.985, -6.85 pct

The drugmaker’s talks to sell its Salix unit to Takeda Pharmaceutical Co Ltd for about $10 billion have broken down, WSJ reported, citing sources.

** GOPRO INC, $10.1, +2.75 pct

The wearable action camera maker said it would cut about 15 percent of its workforce and shutter its entertainment business, as the one-time Wall Street favorite cuts costs to help it return to profitability.

** OCULAR THERAPEUTIX INC, $9.17, -6.71 pct

The eye drug developer entered a controlled equity offering sales agreement with Cantor Fitzgerald & Co to offer and sell common shares in an aggregate offering of up to $40 million.

** FIRST BANCORP, $5.95, -6.59 pct

The Puerto Rico-based financial holding company announced a secondary public offering of 18 million shares at $5.60 per share.

** FARMLAND PARTNERS, $11.03, -6.84 pct

The agricultural REIT offered 3.1 million shares priced at $11.25 apiece, 5 percent discount to the stock’s last close, for gross proceeds of about $33.3 million.

** UNITED TECHNOLOGIES CORP, $108.45, -0.36 pct

The oilfield services provider reached an agreement with CSL Capital Management and Goldman Sachs Group Inc’s merchant banking division to create a hydraulic fracturing company in which Baker Hughes will own a 46.7 percent stake.

** SPLUNK INC, $59.655, +3.96 pct

At least 5 brokerages raised their target prices on the stock after the data analytics software maker posted better-than expected third-quarter revenue and profit. Also, the company’s revenue forecast for the fourth-quarter was higher than the average analyst estimate.


The frac sand supplier said it repurchased $213 million of term loans outstanding under its existing credit agreement at a discount.

** WINGSTOP INC, $30.7, +2.37 pct

Hedge fund manager Whitney Tilson said on Tuesday that he shorted the restaurant operator’s stock.
