CANADA STOCKS-TSX gains as energy shares offset weaker golds

TORONTO, May 17 (Reuters) - Canada's main stock index rose
in choppy trade on Friday as weakness in shares of gold
producers, which were hurt by a lower bullion price, was more
than offset by gains in energy stocks after the price of oil
rose.
The Toronto Stock Exchange's S&P/TSX composite index
was up 10.40 points, or 0.08 percent, at 12,518
shortly after the open.
