Canada's Guay fastest in Bormio training

BORMIO, Italy (Reuters) - Canada’s Erik Guay notched up the fastest time in Thursday’s training for this weekend’s World Cup downhill race. Guay, who won his maiden race in Garmisch-Partenkirchen last February, skied the course in two minutes 3.44 seconds.

Marco Buechel of Liechtenstein was 0.05 seconds behind, while Switzerland’s Tobias Gruenenfelder was third with a time of 2:03.66.

Austrian skiing great Hermann Maier came down fourth with a run of 2:03.71.

Another training run is scheduled on Friday in the northern Italian resort, before Saturday’s race.
