Flaherty says bank mergers still not on agenda

TORONTO (Reuters) - Finance Minister Jim Flaherty said on Tuesday that regardless of the woes in the U.S. financial system, the question of whether Canadian banks should be allowed to merge is not a priority for the minority Conservative government.

“No, our opposition on bank mergers remains what it has been for more than two years, that it’s not a priority for us,” Flaherty told reporters in Toronto.
