OTTAWA (Reuters) - Canada will host a meeting of finance ministers from the Group of Seven leading industrialized nations in early February next year, Finance Minister Jim Flaherty said on Wednesday.
Leaders of the Group of 20 developed and major developing nations decided at a Pittsburgh summit last month that the G20 would take over from the G7 as the world’s preeminent economic forum.
Flaherty also told reporters that Canada -- which will chair the G7 next year as well as co-chair the G20 -- would host a meeting of G20 finance ministers in early June.
“It’s possible we might have another meeting around the spring IMF meetings in Washington ... as (the) G20 because all the ministers will be there,” he said.
“The next meeting will be early February,” he added, making clear he was talking about the G7 finance ministers.
