Canadian environment minister to resign

OTTAWA (Reuters) - Canadian Environment Minister Jim Prentice confirmed on Thursday that he will leave that post and politics to take a senior position at Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce.

The cabinet position of is one of the toughest in the minority Conservative government, which critics regularly attack for not caring enough about the environment.

Prentice, who made the surprise announcement in the House of Commons, said he expects to leave politics by the end of the year.
