Five sign on to haunt "Girlfriends"

NEW YORK (Hollywood Reporter) - The Matthew McConaughey/Jennifer Garner romantic comedy “The Ghosts of Girlfriends Past” has added Breckin Meyer, Lacey Chabert, Anne Archer, Amanda Walsh and Emma Stone to its cast.

Directed by Mark Waters (“Freaky Friday,” “Mean Girls”), the New Line film stars McConaughey as Connor, a womanizer who attends the wedding of his younger brother (Meyer) and bride (Chabert). There, he’s haunted by several old flames, including the bride’s best friend (Garner).

Archer plays the mother of the bride, a potential Connor conquest, and Walsh plays the only bridesmaid he hasn’t conquered. Stone plays the supernatural Ghost of Girlfriends Past who guides him through his romantic history in this take-off on Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol.”

Jon Lucas and Scott Moore penned the screenplay.

Ben Affleck was set to star in the project before Disney pulled the plug on it in October 2003.
