Lil Wayne fends off Coldplay on singles chart

NEW YORK (Billboard) - With his long-delayed new album due out next week, rapper Lil Wayne’s “Lollipop” began a fourth week at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 singles chart Thursday.

But there’s strong competition from British rock band Coldplay and rookie singer Katy Perry.

Coldplay’s “Viva La Vida” jumped seven places to No. 3 to become the biggest Hot 100 hit of its career, surpassing the No. 8 peak of its 2005 tune “Speed of Sound.” The tune appears on an iTunes TV commercial, and Coldplay performed it Sunday at the MTV Movie Awards in Los Angeles.

Perry’s “I Kissed a Girl” soared 16 places to No. 5. Her Capitol debut, “One of the Boys,” arrives June 17.

Meanwhile, Lil Wayne’s “Lollipop” was also tops for a sixth week on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs tally. Additionally, he enjoyed the top debut on the Hot 100 with “Got Money” featuring T-Pain at No. 13. Both are drawn from his upcoming album, “Tha Carter III.”

Elsewhere on the Hot 100, Leona Lewis’ “Bleeding Love” held at No. 2, Rihanna’s “Take a Bow” at No. 4, and Usher’s “Love in This Club” featuring Young Jeezy at No. 6.

Jordin Sparks’ “No Air” featuring Chris Brown dropped two to No. 7, and Ray J & Yung Berg’s “Sexy Can I” slipped one to No. 8.

New “American Idol” champ David Cook’s “The Time of My Life” slid six to No. 9. Only three of Cook’s 11 record-breaking debuts from last week remained on the Hot 100.

Madonna’s “4 Minutes” featuring Justin Timberlake dropped two to No. 10.
