Canadian broadcasters firm lineups after strike

TORONTO (Hollywood Reporter) - As they bounce back from the Hollywood writers strike, Canadian broadcasters on Monday unveiled start dates for returning hit U.S. series.

CTV, Canada’s primetime ratings leader, said “Dancing With the Stars” will return March 17, and fresh episodes of “CSI: Miami” March 24.

Private Canadian broadcasters typically simulcast American primetime series in the same time slot as they hold on U.S. networks south of the border, to maximize audience and advertising revenue.

Also on tap for CTV are “Criminal Minds” and “CSI: New York” on April 2, “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation” on April 3 and “Ghost Whisperer” on April 4.

Rival Global Television is to air new episodes of NBC’s “My Name is Earl” from April 3 with a one-hour episode, followed a week later with a resumption of the simulcast at 9 p.m.

Global’s returning slate includes “NCIS” on April 8, “The Office” on April 10, “Bones” on April 14 and “House” on April 28.
