CBS orders "Birbiglia's Journal"

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - CBS has ordered the comedy pilot “Mike Birbiglia’s Secret Public Journal,” a project based on a weekly blog in which the comedian chronicles his daily life.

He will star as a stand-up comedian who lives with his girlfriend in Brooklyn and struggles to do the right, adult things. Birbiglia created the project with Andrew Secunda.

Birbiglia, 29, who has toured the country for the past seven years, became one of the youngest comedians ever to appear on CBS’ “The Late Show With David Letterman.”

Years ago, the “Late Show” appearance of another stand-up comedian, Ray Romano, also led to an autobiographical comedy project for CBS that went on to become “Everybody Loves Raymond, “ one of the top TV series of the past decade.

Birbiglia e-mails his “Secret Public Journal” entries to about 30,000 fans. The blog also is a feature on the nationally syndicated radio program “The Bob & Tom Show.”
