Kenny G goes Latin for Starbucks debut

NEW YORK (Billboard) - Jazz saxophone player Kenny G has signed a new deal with Starbucks Entertainment and Concord Records, the partners behind Ray Charles’ posthumous smash album.

Kenny G’s debut album under the new pact, the Latin-themed “Rhythm and Romance,” will go on sale February 5 at Starbucks locations and traditional retail stores, just in time for Valentine’s Day.

Kenny G had recorded for Arista since his self-titled 1982 debut. His final release for the label was 2006’s “I’m In the Mood for Love — The Most Romantic Melodies of All Time,” which debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Contemporary Jazz chart.

He will begin a tour in support of the new album January 18 in San Diego. Dates are on tap through March 26 in Miami.

Charles’ album “Genius Loves Company” topped the U.S. pop charts, and won the Grammy for album of the year in 2005.
