LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Prosecutors on Monday charged actress Heather Locklear with driving under the influence of prescription drugs.
Locklear, 47, was arrested in September in the city of Montecito about 90 miles northwest of Los Angeles when a California Highway Patrol officer found her car parked on a highway and blocking a traffic lane.
A toxicology test showed Locklear had prescription medication in her system, but not alcohol or illegal drugs, said Lee Carter, senior deputy district attorney for Santa Barbara County, California.
She was charged with a misdemeanor and not a more serious felony count, Carter said.
Locklear became a star in the 1980s drama "Dynasty." In the 1990s, she starred in the drama "Melrose Place." Her ex-husband is rock guitarist Richie Sambora of the band Bon Jovi.
The actress is expected to be arraigned on January 26. Her attorney could not immediately be reached for comment.
