Paparazzo says actor Woody Harrelson assaulted him

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - A paparazzo has accused actor Woody Harrelson of assaulting him and damaging a video camera on Wednesday night at LaGuardia Airport in New York, officials said.

No charges have been filed but Port Authority of New York and New Jersey police are investigating, Port Authority spokesman Ron Marsico said on Friday.

“There was a complaint filed alleging that Mr. Harrelson pushed a video camera into an individual’s face and also damaged the camera,” Marsico said. “We are looking into it.”

Harrelson’s spokeswoman said she could not immediately comment.

The camera operator declined medical attention, Marsico said, adding that Harrelson was gone once police got to the scene.

The camera operator was working for celebrity website TMZ.com. Marsico declined to identify the man who filed the complaint.

In December 2006, a TMZ paparazzo filed a complaint with Los Angeles officials, saying that he was assaulted by Harrelson. The district attorney in Los Angeles investigated and did not file charges.

Harrelson, 47, now a movie actor, gained fame in the 1980s starring as goofy and lovable bartender Woody Boyd on television sitcom “Cheers.” He won an Emmy for that role.

Harrelson was nominated for an Oscar for the title role in the 1996 film, “The People vs. Larry Flynt” and also starred in 2007’s “No Country for Old Men.”
