LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - A judge on Tuesday extended a stay away order for three years against a Florida man who was arrested near the set of TV show “Dancing With the Stars” and charged with stalking 17-year-old Olympian Shawn Johnson, a contestant on the program.
Los Angeles Superior Court Commissioner Anthony Drewry extended the restraining order against Robert O‘Ryan, who was taken into police custody on March 23. It requires him to stay 100 yards (meters) away from Johnson and her parents.
Johnson won a gold medal at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing for her balance beam routine. She is the youngest competitor ever on “Dancing,” a popular show that pairs celebrities with dancing pros.
O‘Ryan, 34, was arrested after he jumped a fence at CBS Studios in Los Angeles, where “Dancing” was being shot.
He had a shotgun, a handgun and duct tape in his car, according to court documents. He drove from his Florida home to L.A. to see Johnson, and during a traffic stop in Alabama said he intended to marry the Olympian.
When he was detained at CBS Studios, O‘Ryan said Johnson spoke to him through the TV set, according to court documents.
O‘Ryan is currently in jail with his bail set at $220,000.
