The 20th Century Fox project is based on the 2004 novel by Kathryn Mackel. The story centers on a couple desperate to have a child who discover that the surrogate they’ve hired to carry their baby is insane.

Berry is interested in playing the role of the wife, and Fox is keen for her to do it, but official deal-making has yet to begin.

The actress, who won an Academy Award for her lead performance in “Monster’s Ball,” starred as Storm in Fox’s “X-Men” movies and toplined the 2007 drama “Things We Lost in the Fire.”
