"Life's a Zoo.tv" among early Gemini winners

TORONTO (Hollywood Reporter) - Canadian cartoon series “Life’s a Zoo.tv” earned a Gemini award for best animated series on Tuesday, ahead of next month’s main ceremony honoring the best in Canadian television.

The kids comedy from Cuppa Coffee Studios beat out another entrant from the same company, “Rick and Steve, the Happiest Gay Couple in the World”, “Jibber Jabber” from Jibber Jabber Toons and Amberwood Entertainment’s “Rollbots”.

“Rollbots” snagged a trophy for best animation direction for George Elliott.

The Disney Channel’s “Life With Derek”, from Shaftesbury Films earned the Gemini for best kids fictional series and a best kids show performance for lead Michael Seater.

“TVO Kids — Mark’s Moments”, a magazine series that profiles young people with disabilities, picked up the Gemini for best kids nonfiction series.

Geminis also went to Showtime drama series “The Tudors” for best sound, photography and picture editing, while “The Young Romantic” won the award for best comedy photography and picture editing.

Trophies in the top Gemini categories will be handed out by the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television in a live televised ceremony on November 14 in Calgary.
