"V" invades Canada with big ratings

TORONTO (Hollywood Reporter) - The Canadian invasion of the sci-fi drama “V” on Tuesday night turned into the top-rated new series for fall north of the border.

CTV netted 2.16 million total viewers as it simulcast the Stateside bow on ABC, according to BBM Canada audience data.

It marked the first show of the season to surpass 2 million viewers, pipping CBC’s competition series “Battle of the Blades” (1.99 million) and Global Television’s debut of “Glee” (1.94 million).

CTV said nearly 5 million Canadians saw some or all of “V’s” bow, as the remake of 1980s alien encounters drama won the night in key demos.

In the United States, “V” drew an impressive 14.3 million viewers. CBS’ “NCIS” ranked as the evening’s most-watched show (20.2 million).

Critics were a bit all over the map on “V”, ranging from a rave in USA Today, to the New York Times calling it slapdash and formulaic.
