LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Eddie Murphy will produce the buddy comedy “The Misadventures of Fluffy.”
Described as a road trip movie through New York, the Paramount Pictures project features talking animals — evoking memories of Murphy’s “Dr. Dolittle” franchise — and has an element of social comedy reminiscent of his 1983 hit “Trading Places.”
Insiders emphasize that while Murphy could potentially star in the film, at this point his only formal attachment to the project is as a producer.
Sam Pitman and Adam Cole-Kelly sold the pitch for the R-rated comedy and will write the script.
The duo came to prominence with a project called “The Diversification of Noah Miller,” a race-themed story about a man who tries to bring cultural enlightenment to his son by befriending people of another race. Tyler Perry is attached to produce and potentially star in that project.
Paramount is already in business with Murphy on “Beverly Hills Cop IV.”
Murphy’s last two live-action films, “Imagine That” and “Meet Dave,” struggled at the box office, but he is involved in a number of high-profile development projects, including a “Fantasy Island” reboot. He reprises his prominent voice role in the upcoming “Shrek Forever After.”
