ABC and Canwest renew "Rookie Blue"

TORONTO (Hollywood Reporter) - ABC and Canadian broadcaster Canwest Global Communications Corp. have renewed the summer cop drama “Rookie Blue” for a second season.

The Toronto-produced series revolves around five inexperienced cops thrown into the world of big city policing, and stars Missy Peregrym, Gregory Smith (“Everwood”), Enuka Okuma and Travis Milne.

Three weeks into its run, “Rookie” is averaging 7.1 million viewers in the United States. Modest, sure, but among the current crop of freshman scripted broadcast shows, “Rookie” has demonstrated the most potential since that other Canadian cop drama — CBS’ “Flashpoint.” Production will resume later this summer.
