Wyclef Jean files as Haiti presidential candidate

PORT-AU-PRINCE (Reuters) - Hip-hop star Wyclef Jean registered as a candidate on Thursday for Haiti’s November presidential election, a party official said.

“Wyclef is registering as candidate for president for my party,” Daniel Jean Jacques, head of the country’s Viv Ansanm political party, told Reuters.

He spoke as Jean, who flew into the earthquake-ravaged nation with family members aboard a private jet on Thursday, filed paperwork presenting his candidacy to Haiti’s electoral authority.
