LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - “Dexter” star Michael C, Hall and the actress who plays his sister in the serial-killer TV drama are getting divorced after less than two years of marriage, news reports said on Monday.
Hall, 39 and Jennifer Carpenter, 31, have been “separated for some time” and their split was “amicable,” a spokesman for the actor said.
But while the statement said the pair had filed for divorce, online news outlet TMZ said it was Carpenter who pulled the plug. The spokesman declined comment, as did Carpenter’s spokeswoman.
Hall, who was previously married to actress Amy Spangler, tied the knot with his “Dexter” co-star on New Year’s Eve in 2008.
Their real-life romance required a suspension of disbelief by fans of the edgy drama, which wrapped its fifth season on premium cable channel Showtime on Sunday with strong ratings.
Hall plays the title character, a mild-mannered blood spatter analyst for the Miami police by day and a deeply conflicted serial killer by night. Carpenter’s character, Debra, works alongside her adopted brother as a trash-talking homicide detective who has no clue about his extracurricular activities.
The couple’s marriage survived Hall’s bout with Hodgkin’s lymphoma earlier this year. They have no children. The news of their divorce was first reported by Entertainment Weekly.
