Millennium trilogy actor Oscarsson dead: Swedish police

STOCKHOLM (Reuters) - Swedish police said on Wednesday they had identified the remains of 83 year-old actor Per Oscarsson after a fire at his house on New Year’s Eve.

Oscarsson, born in 1927, won the Best Actor award at the 1966 Cannes Film Festival for his role in the film Hunger, and appeared in a large number of films and TV series in Sweden.

He also appeared in recent films based on Stieg Larsson’s Millennium trilogy of books.

Police in Gothenburg said Oscarsson’s wife had also died in the fire, which destroyed his house near the town of Skara in southern Sweden.

“The bodies were identified today with the help of dental records,” a police spokesman said.
