Singapore, Portland airports get top marks in survey

NEW YORK (Reuters Life!) - Portland, Oregon scored top marks as the favorite U.S. airport for business travelers, while Singapore was the number one destination for international travel, according to a new survey.

Tampa, Florida and Reagan National Airport in Washington, D.C., rounded out the top three domestic choices in the Conde Nast Traveler poll released on Friday.

“This is a poll of our readers, who leave no corner of the globe untraveled in the name of work,” said Klara Glowczewska, editor in chief of Conde Nast Traveler.

For U.S. business travelers going a bit farther from home, Hong Kong and Amsterdam also scored high marks.

“Portland’s airport ranked at the top of the overall evaluation due to high scores in the areas of location and access, ease of connections and comfort and design,” the magazine, which surveyed 2,500 business travelers about their preferred airports, airlines and hotels, said in a statement.

Dining, shopping and baggage considerations thrust Singapore to the top of the international list.

“Singapore’s airport received the poll’s highest scores in location and access, ease of connections, customs and baggage, as well as food, shops, amenities and comfort design,” according to the magazine.

The Peninsula took the top spot in both U.S. and international hotel chains, with the highest scores for overall design in the United States and dining/restaurants in its interactional hotels.

Four Seasons was ranked highest in dining and restaurants in the United States, while Raffles topped the front desk services category in international hotel chains.

Singapore Airlines won the transpacific routes-business class category by scoring highest in seat comfort and legroom, food and beverages, cabin service, on-board amenities and technology, airport lounges and frequent flier privileges.

For domestic U.S. travel, Virgin America, Alaska Air and Continental took top honors for first and/or business class travel. Top transatlantic business class honors went to Virgin Atlantic, Singapore Airlines and Emirates.
