BRUSSELS (Reuters Life!) - Finnish authorities on Thursday gained approval from the European Commission for a 116 million euro ($149.9 million) aid package to support film production and distribution in rural communities.
The Commission said the aim was to promote high quality, diverse and original Finnish film production, exhibitions and film festivals.
“The good cooperation from the Finnish authorities enabled the Commission to appreciate the necessity...in light of the specific difficulties of distributing films in Finland and of cinemas in small, remote communities,” EU Competition Commissioner Neelie Kroes in a statement.
