NEW YORK (Reuters) - The family of British actress Natasha Richardson, who died this week after a ski accident, gathered for a wake in New York on Friday.

Her husband, Irish actor Liam Neeson, and the couple’s two sons, aged 12 and 13, were joined by Richardson’s mother, Vanessa Redgrave, and sister, Joely Richardson, both actresses, at the American Irish Historical Society in Manhattan.

The 45-year-old actress died in a New York hospital on Wednesday, two days after falling and hitting her head during a private ski lesson at Canada’s Mont Tremblant resort, about 75 miles north of Montreal.

On Thursday evening, Neeson emerged from his home to watch the lights dimmed at Broadway theaters in honor of his wife, who was an accomplished performer on screen and stage, and who won a Tony award for the 1998 musical revival of “Cabaret.”

He was joined in the Broadway theater district by family and friends, including actors Matthew Broderick and Laura Linney.
