Eco group targets Top Gear's Clarkson

LONDON (Reuters Life!) - Environmental activists have dumped two bags of horse manure in the front garden of BBC “Top Gear” presenter Jeremy Clarkson in protest at what they called his blase attitude to climate change.

Seven female activists from the Climate Rush group also unfurled a banner bearing the message: “This is what you’re landing us in.”

Outspoken presenter Clarkson, who has ridiculed the effects of climate change on his program, emitted an estimated 1.7 tonnes of carbon on a recent drive to the Antarctic for the show according to Climate Rush.

“I love Jeremy. I love fast cars. But ... I learnt that climate change will make my future unrecognizable,” said the group’s Tamsin Omond in a statement.

The protesters, who staged a demonstration outside Oxford Airport last week, arrived at Clarkson’s Oxfordshire house on Thursday morning dressed as suffragettes in a van fueled by used chip-frying oil.

“If we keep on loving the fossil-fueled lifestyle, then by the time I hit 49, the world will be too busy coping with the impact of climate change to bother about how big an engine is possible,” Omond added.

“I’m the biggest libertarian of them all — I’m dumping dung at Clarkson’s gates so he might understand that his attitude will land us all in the shit.”

A spokeswoman for Clarkson declined to comment

Clarkson, who has endured a variety of protests during his career, is no stranger to controversy.

In February he apologized for calling Prime Minister Gordon Brown a “one-eyed Scottish idiot” at a news conference in Australia.
