Lady Gaga, Kylie Minogue strike out in ARIA awards

SYDNEY (Reuters Life!) - Global superstars Lady Gaga and Kylie Minogue both struck out at Australia’s ARIA awards, with the top prize for international artist going to an English folk rock band.

Mumford & Sons picked up the Most Popular International Artist award on Sunday, the final night of the Australian Recording Industry Association Music Awards, since 1987 an annual series of awards celebrating the Australian music industry.

The Album of the Year Award went to Angus and Julia Stone, a brother and sister duo from Sydney, for “Down the Way,” beating such artists as Birds of Tokyo for their eponymous album and Sia for “We Are Born.” The pair also took several other awards including Best Group.

Birds of Tokyo took Best Rock Album and Clare Bowditch won best female artist with “Modern Day Addiction,” beating Minogue and her latest album, “Aphrodite.”
