Aug 5 (Reuters) - Canada’s RuggedCom Inc’s RCM.TO quarterly profit almost halved, as the communications equipment maker’s earnings were hurt by a stronger Canadian dollar and lower margins.
For the first quarter ended June 30, the company earned $885,000, or 7 cents a share, down from $1.7 million, or 14 cents a share, a year ago.
Total revenue rose 25 percent to $16 million, primarily driven by increased sales in the electric power market, which comprised 65 percent of the company’s total revenue.
Customer purchase orders rose 40 percent to $18.1 million.
The company added 105 new customers in the quarter, an increase of 13 percent over the same period last year.
Shares of the company closed C$23.88 Wednesday on the Toronto Stock Exchange. (Reporting by Ashutosh Joshi in Bangalore; Editing by Unnikrishnan Nair)
