May 20 (Reuters) - Canadian communications equipment maker RuggedCom Inc RCM.TO reported a 49 percent jump in fourth-quarter profit, as strong demand from the electric power market boosted revenue.
For the quarter ended March 31, the company earned $3.4 million, or 28 cents a share, up from $2.3 million, or 19 cents a share, a year ago.
Total revenue rose 52 percent to $17.4 million.
Revenue growth was primarily driven by increased sales in the electric power market, which accounted for 63 percent of its total revenue, the company said.
Customer purchase orders rose 23 percent to $16.5 million.
The company added 105 new customers in the quarter, an increase of 24 percent over the same period last year.
RuggedCom shares, which have gained 134 percent in the last six months, closed at C$30.10 Wednesday on the Toronto Stock Exchange. (Reporting by R. Manikandan in Bangalore; Editing by Ratul Ray Chaudhuri)
