HONG KONG, May 24 (Reuters) - China Unicom (Hong Kong) Ltd , the country’s No.2 mobile carrier, is confident of exceeding its target of 25 million for 3G users this year, President Lu Yimin told a news conference on Tuesday.
China Unicom’s mobile subscribers totalled 177 million in April, up 1.4 percent from a month earlier, with 3G users totalling 20.35 million.
In April, China Unicom reported a sharp fall in first-quarter net profit due to heavy handset subsidies and higher costs.
China Unicom said in May it had started offering services with Research in Motion’s Blackberry phones. It is also the only mobile operator to have the right to sell Apple’s iconic iPhone in China. [ID:nL3E7ET1IV] (Reporting by Huang Yuntao; Editing by Jacqueline Wong)
