May 17 (Reuters) - Oil and gas company Vermilion En-ergy Inc said it shut about 1,300 barrels of oil per day of production in the Slave Lake area in Alberta where wildfires are raging since Sunday.
Wildfires whipped by high winds destroyed more than a third of a sizable town in northern Alberta on Monday and forced oil companies in Canada’s largest energy-producing province to shut off tens of thousands of barrels of output. [ID:nN16293216]
Vermilion, whose Canadian operations are concentrated in Alberta, said it activated its emergency response plan and is working closely with authorities as the situation unfolds.
