BUZZ-Northern Dynasty Minerals: Eyes settlement with EPA over Pebble mine

** Canadian miner’s U.S.-listed shares jump 21 pct to $1.78 in premarket

** Company and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) file a joint motion in federal court which extends a stay of proceedings in their dispute over EPA’s action against the proposed Pebble mine in Alaska where Northern has a claim

** “The parties have identified a likely framework for settlement and request a short, one-week extension of the current stay,” the motion states

** Dispute with EPA first began in 2014 when the regulator initiated a rarely used process under the Clean Water Act to block the development of the Pebble mine as it posed an ecological threat

** The Pebble deposit has inspired opposition from environmentalists, Alaska Natives, and commercial fishermen

** Northern CEO Tom Collier says he expects to achieve a “resolution to these matters” next week

** Up to Thursday’s close, NAK’s value had nearly doubled since Trump’s election win in November, in anticipation of an easing in regulations
