Teck says to reduce Highland Valley copper output

LONDON, June 25 (Reuters) - Canada’s Teck Resources TCKa.TO TCKb.TO said on Thursday it expected to reduce Highland Valley copper output by 35 million lb in the second half of this year and a further 115 million lb in 2010, due to geotechnical issues.

“Access to some of the ore in the Valley Pit is expected to be restricted for at least the next 18 months,” the company said in a statement on its website.

“The shortfall is expected to be partially made up from lower grade ore from the Lornex and Highmont pits.” (Reporting by Veronica Brown and Pratima Desai; Editing by Anthony Barker)
