New YORK, March 4 (Reuters) - Yamana Gold (YRI.TO) reported a higher quarterly profit on Wednesday, but its fourth-quarter revenue was lower than it reported for the same period a year before, as it has been hurt by falling copper prices.
Yamana, which uses its copper production to offset its gold mining costs, posted net earnings of $179.4 million, or 25 a share, in the quarter ended Dec. 31. Last year, it reported consolidated net earnings of $47.1 million, or 8 cents a share, for the fourth quarter of 2007.
It reported quarterly revenue of $188.2 million for the fourth quarter of 2008, but said revenue would have been $114.1 million after a nonrecurring pricing adjustment.
It posted revenue of $218.6 million for the fourth quarter of 2007. (Reporting by Sinead Carew; Editing by Andre Grenon)
