NEW YORK, Feb 4 (Reuters) - Universal Forest Products Inc (UFPI.O) said on Thursday its fourth-quarter loss narrowed from year-ago levels, when results were hurt by severance costs and impairment charges.
The company posted a net loss of $793,000, or 4 cents a share, compared with a year-ago loss of $11 million, or 58 cents a share.
Quarterly net sales fell 17.3 percent to $423.7 million.
The company, which produces wood products used in the homebuilding industry, said it expects the current challenging conditions to prevail throughout 2009. (Reporting by Euan Rocha)
