TORONTO, Nov 6 (Reuters) - Giant-screen movie theater chain IMAX Corp IMX.TO reported a smaller third-quarter loss on Thursday, as higher box office revenues help offset equipment and interest costs.
The loss narrowed to $2.1 million, or 5 cents a share, from $7.5 million, or 19 cents a share, a year earlier.
Revenue rose 13.2 percent to $33.5 million from $29.6 million, as “The Dark Knight: The IMAX Experience,” drove up film receipts, the company said.
IMAX said it also had benefited by holding operating expenses steady.
The Mississauga, Ontario-based company said it had invested about $6 million in the quarter to buy equipment for its joint revenue sharing digital projection systems.
It also incurred around $4.5 million in interest expenses.
IMAX said it was on track to install about 45 digital systems by year-end. ($1=$1.17 Canadian) (Reporting by John McCrank; Editing by Lisa Von Ahn)
