TORONTO, Dec 16 (Reuters) - BlackBerry maker Research In Motion’s RIM.TO net profit jumped 45 percent in its fiscal third quarter, boosted by strong sales of its flagship Torch smartphone and deeper adoption worldwide.
The Canadian company on Thursday reported net profit of $911.1 million, or $1.74 per share, on revenue of $5.49 billion, it said in a statement released after the market closed.
Analysts had, on average, expected earnings of $1.65 per share and revenue of $5.4 billion, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.
RIM said it shipped 14.2 million BlackBerry smartphones in the three months ending Nov. 27 and added 5.1 million net new subscribers, meeting expectations. (Reporting by Alastair Sharp; editing by Janet Guttsman)
