VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Jan 20 (Reuters) - Viterra Inc’s VT.TO net profit jumped sharply in the latest quarter due mainly to a strong performance from its grain handling division, the company said on Tuesday.
Viterra earned C$46.8 million ($37 million), or 20 Canadian cents a share, in the fourth quarter, ended Oct 31. That was up from C$800,000, or nil, for the comparable quarter year earlier.
Sales and operating revenues were C$1.7 billion, up from C$1.2 billion, according to the company, which was known as Saskatchewan Wheat Pool until it acquired rival Agricore United in 2007. ($1=$1.27 Canadian) (Reporting by Scott Anderson, Allan Dowd)
