TORONTO, Feb 23 (Reuters) - Gammon Gold GAM.TO said on Wednesday that an eight-month strike at its El Cubo gold mine in Mexico has ended, after the local union approved a new collective agreement.
The Toronto-based company said it will initially focus on evaluating the underground conditions and mine facilities at the site so that it can develop an operations plan that will allow production to restart as soon as possible.
Gammon said it will provide a definitive timetable on when production will begin once it has completed its infrastructure evaluation and finalized the production start-up plan.
Workers at the site went on strike in June 2010 after claiming that the company had failed to honor a profit-sharing agreement. [ID:nN22280023]
The company, which fired about 400 employees at the time, said it will begin the rehiring process. (Reporting by Euan Rocha; editing by Peter Galloway)
