UPDATE 1-Hydrogenics' fourth-quarter loss declines

* Q4 Loss $0.02/shr vs year-ago loss of $0.10/shr

* Back-log as of Dec 31 was $22.2 mln

TORONTO, March 25 (Reuters) - Canadian fuel cell manufacturer Hydrogenics Corp (HYG.TO) posted a lower quarterly loss on Wednesday, helped by operational improvements and product cost reductions.

The company posted a fourth-quarter loss of $2 million, or 2 cents a share, down from a year-ago loss of $9.5 million, or 10 cents a share.

Mississauga, Ontario-based Hydrogenics said it ended the quarter with a backlog of $22.2 million, more than 90 percent of which is anticipated to be delivered and recognized as revenue in 2009.

The company said cash and cash equivalents, restricted cash and short-term investments were $22.7 million as at Dec 31. (Reporting by Euan Rocha; Editing by Steve Orlofsky)
