Chile Sqm sees tight iodine, lithium markets ahead

SANTIAGO, Oct 28 (Reuters) - Chile’s Soquimich, the world’s top lithium and iodine producer, said on Tuesday it saw continued strong demand and tight supply in key markets going forward.

“While current world economic conditions have generated uncertainty about the coming months, we are confident in the fundamentals underlying our key markets, where we expect to see growing demand and tight supply conditions,” Soquimich Chief Executive Officer Patricio Contesse said in the company’s statement of results for the Jan-September period.

Soquimich, a Chilean fertilizer, lithium and iodine producer SQM_pb.SN SQMa.SN (SQM.N) said on Tuesday its profit for the Jan-Sept period nearly tripled to $381 million. (Reporting by Pav Jordan; Editing by David Gregorio)
