Hyundai Motor aims to lift '09 sales 8 pct -exec

SEOUL, July 23 (Reuters) - Hyundai Motor Co (005380.KS), South Korea’s top automaker, aims to boost vehicle sales this year by 7.9 percent, a company executive said on Thursday.

Hyundai is targetting sales of about 3 million vehicles in 2009, compared with 2.78 million last year, Chung Tae-hwan, the company’s chief financial officer, told reporters and analysts.

Hyundai expects U.S. industry-wide car sales to fall to around 9.7 million units in 2009 from 12.0 million last year, Chung said. (Reporting by Cheon Jong-woo; Editing by Jonathan Hopfner)
