Aug 4 (Reuters) - Canada's Westport Innovations Inc WPT.TO posted a wider quarterly net loss, partly hurt by lower shipments at its heavy-duty business unit.
For the first quarter ended June 30, the company reported net loss of $8.1 million, compared with a loss of $7.9 million a year earlier.
The company, which provides natural-gas engines serving the medium and heavy-duty vehicle markets, said its consolidated revenue rose 17 percent to $25.5 million.
Westport Heavy Duty shipped 6 units during the quarter, compared with 14 units in the same quarter last year. Total revenue for the heavy-duty business unit stood at $1.2 million, down from $1.4 million in the prior year.
Shares of the Vancouver, British Columbia-based company closed at C$18.50 Wednesday on the Toronto Stock Exchange. (Reporting by Koustav Samanta in Bangalore; Editing by Maju Samuel)
