Sears Canada changes year end, profit rises

OTTAWA (Reuters) - Sears Canada SCC.TO said on Wednesday that fourth-quarter profit jumped as it reported results for five additional weeks due to a change in fiscal year end for the country’s second-biggest department store.

It said net earnings for the 18 weeks ended February 2, 2007 rose to C$138.4 million after tax, or C$1.29 per share. That compares with a profit of C$108.5 million, or C$1.01 per share, for the 13 weeks ended December 30, 2006.
