Transcontinental posts higher second-quarter profit

OTTAWA (Reuters) - Commercial printer Transcontinental Inc (TCLa.TO) (TCLb.TO) reported an 11 percent gain in second-quarter profit on Thursday as acquisitions and investments in new technologies more than offset the negative impact of the appreciation of the Canadian dollar.

The company said it earned C$37.7 million ($36.9 million), or 46 Canadian cents per share, in the three months ended April 30. That is up from a profit of C$34 million, or 40 Canadian cents a share, in the same period last year.

    ($1=$1.02 Canadian)
