Viterra posts Q1 profit on strong sales, margins

(In Canadian dollars)

WINNIPEG, Manitoba, March 12 (Reuters) - Viterra VT.TO posted a net profit of C$41.2 million ($41.6 million), or 20 Canadian cents a share, for the quarter ended Jan. 31 amid brisk sales of farm supplies and higher margins, Canada's top grain handler said on Wednesday.

Viterra, which changed its name from Saskatchewan Wheat Pool after its C$1.8 billion takeover of Agricore United last year, did not provide pro forma results for the year-earlier quarter for comparison.
