Maple Leaf losses grow as wheat prices soar

TORONTO (Reuters) - Maple Leaf Foods Inc (MFI.TO) saw its losses grow in the fourth quarter due in part to soaring wheat prices, the strong Canadian currency, and restructuring charges, the Canadian meat processor and bakery said on Thursday.

Maple Leaf reported a loss of C$22.1 million ($22.8 million), or 17 Canadian cents per share in the quarter, compared with a year-earlier loss of C$11.6 million, or 9 Canadian cents per share, when the company faced aggressive restructuring costs to get out of the money-losing pork export business.
