Trapp, Crew stun Orlando City in stoppage, 3-2

Wil Trapp scored his first goal since 2014, a stunning 35-yarder in the second minute of second-half stoppage time, as the Columbus Crew rallied for 3-2 victory against visiting Orlando City on Saturday.

Trapp has two goals in 145 MLS matches. The other came Sept. 13, 2014, versus the Houston Dynamo.

Gyasi Zardes scored twice, including the tying penalty kick in the 88th minute, for the Crew (9-7-6, 33 points), who ended a two-game losing streak.

Sacha Kljestan scored and had an assist and Stefano Pinho put Orlando City (7-12-1, 22 points) up 2-1 in the 58th minute.

Zardes tied the score at 2-2 after Patrick Mullins, in his Crew debut since being acquired in a trade with D.C. United, was fouled while attempting a header.

Zardes then scored his 13th goal of the season.

The match at Mapfre Stadium in Columbus, Ohio, had a 41-minute weather delay before kickoff.

Orlando City goalkeeper Earl Edwards Jr., who made his first start of the season July 14 in a 2-1 win over Toronto FC to end the Lion’s nine-game losing streak, left the game in the 32nd minute with a possible lower leg injury after a collision with the Crew’s Pedro Santos.

Edwards did not have to make a save. His replacement, Joe Bendik, had three saves.

Orlando City struck first on Kljestan’s fifth goal in the 16th minute as the Lions scored the first goal in a second straight MLS game and fourth time this season.

Zardes made it 1-1 in the 51st to end the Crew’s 298-minute scoreless streak before Pinho, whose other goal came in the season opener versus D.C. United on March 3, broke the 1-1 tie thanks to a leading ball to the far post by Kljestan that slipped by two Crew defenders.
