Rodman, 46, a two-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year, was booked on suspicion of domestic violence.

“During the investigation, police found that Rodman struck a woman who suffered injuries to her arms,” Sara Fayden of the Los Angeles Police Department said.

Rodman was released early on Thursday morning. Bail was set at $50,000, and his arraignment was scheduled for May 22.

As well-known for his life off the court as on it, Rodman played on National Basketball Association championship teams for the Detroit Pistons and Chicago Bulls. He also had a brief stint with the Los Angeles Lakers.

In early 2003, Rodman was arrested on charges of domestic violence at his home in Newport Beach in Southern California’s Orange County for allegedly hitting his then-fiancee on her lip. His ex-wife Michelle Moyer said in her divorce filing that Rodman had a history of domestic violence.

The star has had a difficult time coping with a recent divorce, and suffered from substance abuse, Rodman’s manager Steve Simon told the Los Angeles Times.
